Why YOU Need a TikTok Shop!

Why YOU Need a TikTok Shop!

Social commerce is one of the biggest forces driving the growth of the e-commerce market in the UK and beyond. Data from Statista shows that the value of the European social commerce market in 2018 stood at just £4.7 billion. By the end of this year, the value is forecast to hit £25.2 billion, rising to a staggering £36.7 billion by 2028.
In a recent edition of the Brickweb blog, we looked in detail at this meteoric growth of the use of social media as an e-commerce tool. In that article, we noted that data from Capterra's 2024 Elusive Customer Survey had revealed TikTok Shop to be the fastest-growing platform for online shoppers, with UK customers spending well over £8 billion using it to purchase products last year.
TikTok has nearly 1.6 billion monthly active users all over the world so it is little surprise to find that its shopping platform is growing so rapidly. TikTok Shop was originally launched to South Asian markets but its success saw it introduced to the UK soon after. The hashtag #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt has attracted well over four billion views and 67% of shoppers surveyed by TikTok said that the platform had introduced them to new products which they went on to purchase.
In February of this year, TikTok Shop accounted for just over 68% of the gross merchandise value for social shopping, according to data from eMarketer. This data also revealed that 81.3% of sales using TikTok shop were made by existing customers and that Gen Z adults (between the ages of 18 and 24) were over three times more likely to use the platform for shopping than people from other demographics.
TikTop Shop offers e-commerce retailers an excellent way to promote their brands and ultimately sell their products. The platform provides a unique opportunity to reach a younger audience while its powerful and intuitive algorithm ensures that products are showcased to those most likely to buy them.
Shoppers can make purchases without ever leaving the TikTok app, reducing checkout friction and abandoned carts. Seller fees are just 9%, comparing favourably with other popular social commerce marketplaces like Amazon and eBay which can charge fees up to 15.3% and 14.9% respectively.
